Vincent Bousserez voit des choses que nous ne voyons pas. Un monde à part. Un monde miniature dans lequel de minuscules personnages en plastique vivent au coeur de nos objets du quotidien. Les images de la série PLASTIC LIFE sont parfois poétiques, souvent douces, ou légèrement sarcastiques, toujours pleines d’humour. Vincent raconte comment par chance il a découvert cette vieille boutique de maquettes dans Paris, pleine de trains électriques, de locomotives minutieuses, de mini-camions, petites maisons, arbres miniatures... dans laquelle il est tombé nez à nez avec des centaines de petits personnages en action, hauts de 2 cm, empilés dans leurs boites transparentes : un vieil homme attendait avec sa valise, une mère était assise sur un banc, des scouts étaient en pleine randonnée, un policier examinait une scène de crime... «J’ai immédiatement pensé qu’il serait intéressant de suggérer des histoires, en sortant ces personnages minuscules de leur monde artificiel pour leur donner vie au coeur du notre. Le premier personnage fut un homme hélant un taxi... Aujourd’hui il fait partie d’une foule énorme, comme une troupe d’acteurs prêts à donner vie à mes idées.» L’écart entre ce qu’ils sont censés faire et ce qu’il faut réellement dans les photos de Vincent donne place à l’humour, le rêve, la nostalgie. «Je joue avec nous-même, avec nos défauts, notre prétention, et parfois notre arrogance. En fait, j’aime me rappeler que c’est nous qui sommes tout petits, même si nous aimons penser que nous sommes très importants.» Depuis 2007.

Vincent Bousserez is seeing something that the rest of us are missing. It's a world apart, a miniature world in which tiny plastic characters engage with our everyday objects. They do similar, recognizable things in their world and, in doing so, they say something to us about what we are missing in ours. The images from Plastic Life are at times poetic, occasionally sweet, sometimes sardonic, and almost always humorous. In their contemplative view, they suggest not the plasticity of the figurines, but the plasticity of our frames of references. Vincent has explained the genesis of this series, discovering by chance, an extraordinary models boutique, full of electric trains, beautiful locomotives, hundreds of tracks, small houses, miniatures and small plastic trees... and stacked in small boxes, hundreds of small figures, 2cm tall, characters in action: there is one who waits with his suitcase, a woman holding her scarf, a mother sitting on a bench, scouts lined up, a policeman managing a crime scene, a soldier back from war...'I immediately though that it would be interesting to get these people out of their artificial world and to bring them to 'life' in ours. 'he first figure was a man who raised his arm, as if hailing a taxi...today he is one of 200 characters that seem almost as a troup of actors, here to bring to life my ideas. The gap between what we expect from them and what they actually (and where they do it) do allows space for the humor, dreams, nostalgia. I make jokes about us...about our faults, our pretensions, and occasionally our arrogance. In fact, it is us who are very small, though we like to think we are very important.' Since 2007
