oxygen

Depuis 2011

Meditations on plastic led Bousserez to consider the consequences of human pollution. The consequences of human industrialization and our slow awakening to its consequences, as well as the recent environmental disasters - the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the Nuclear disaster at Fukushima - have demonstrated to us the need for defenses against our own waste. In his OXYGEN series, Bousserez finds humans who must navigate the world in a plastic cell. They traverse post-industrial wastelands void of sustainable air and soil. Dream-like images, the stuff of science fiction, they confront us with a world in which we must take shelter within the very materials that hastened their own necessity. It's a circular vision that suggests the possibility that we have created a problem with its own artificial intelligence. Since 2011
